The Ballyleague/Lanesboro man leads Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew by over 13,000 votes after 13 counts in Castlebar.

Ciaran Mullooly’s director of elections says he’s confident the Independent Ireland candidate will win the last seat in Midlands Northwest in the European elections.

The Ballyleague/Lanesboro man leads Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew by over 13,000 votes after 13 counts in Castlebar.

Castlerea man Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan is in first place, leading by almost 10,000 votes.

Fine Gael’s Nina Carberry and Maria Walsh, along with Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowan, are also likely to be elected.

Mullooly’s director of elections, Longford’s Pat O’Rourke, says the fifth and final seat will be a close battle.

Yesterday, Michelle Gildernew said she thought Ciaran Mullooly would take the last seat – but she is more optimistic about her chances this evening, speaking to Eoghan Murphy.
