The planned expansion of a multi-national pharmaceutical firm in south Roscommon has been welcomed by local councillors.
Roscommon County Council confirmed the sale of council lands for €1.55 million to allow Novo Nordisk to further develop its operations in Monksland. Members of the council agreed to the deal, which saw the land sold at a cost of €140,000 per acre, earlier this week.
The Danish healthcare firm previously purchased the Alkermes plant in Monksland for $92,.5 million in December of last year.
While broadly welcoming of the deal, some councillors did highlight the need for improvements to infrastructure to allow for increased traffic. The upgrade of both a local roundabout and the nearby N61 as well as the need for a link road to the facility were among the issues raised.
