A number of large trees in Carrick on Shannon are being cut due to safety concerns. 24 of the 98 trees, located on the Dublin Road in the town, were deemed to be in poor health following surveys by 2 seperate companies.
Work is currently ongoing to remove the affected trees and avoid branches falling onto passing vehicles and pedestrians. Local Councillor, Finola Armstrong Maguire, says the expert advice is for space to be left to allow the remaining trees to grow:
