Senator Eugene Murphy and Dr Martin Daly are set for a major battle in Fianna Fáil's selection convention for the Roscommon-Galway constituency this evening.
Meanwhile, the Sinn Féin selection convention for Sligo-Leitrim also kicks off at 8pm in the Sligo Park Hotel.
Senator Murphy and Dr Daly will face off later in a bid to become Fianna Fáil's general election candidate for Roscommon-Galway.
Only one candidate will be selected as per the party directive and the constituency committee has yet to decide whether another will be added.
Cllrs Paschal Fitzmaurice and John Keogh and Brideswell man Malachy Hand have already withdrawn from the process.
The convention, which will be chaired by Longford TD Joe Flaherty, begins at The Abbey Hotel in Roscommon at 8pm.
Meanwhile, the Sinn Féin selection convention for Sligo-Leitrim also takes place this evening at 8pm.
Sligo Park Hotel is the venue with the party opting to select one candidate in the Leitrim part of the constituency and one in Sligo.
Sitting TD Martin Kenny looks set to be confirmed as the Leitrim candidate while the Sligo spot is still very much up for grabs.
That will be contested this evening by Sligo Councillor Thomas Healy and former MEP Chris McManus, who lost his seat in the European elections in June.
