The N60 between Ballymoe and Castlerea in Roscommon has reopened.
The stretch which had been closed for the last five weeks has been completely resurfaced at the cost of 2 million euro.
The scheme was originally scheduled for 2021 but on foot of concerns of locals and lorry drivers of the state of disrepair of the road, which runs through bog terrain, the local authority successfully appealed to the TII to bring it forward by a year.
Local Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says it's welcome for all those who had to navigate very narrow roads while diversions were in place.
