The National Famine Way Commemorative Walk set off today from the Strokestown Famine Museum in Roscommon.
The walk takes place over six days and follows in the footsteps of the 1,490 tenants forced to leave their homes in Strokestown in 1847.
Traversing six counties, the walk follows the 165-kilomotre Famine Way all the way to The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin's Docklands.
Taking part in the walk is Ambassador of Ireland to Canada Eamonn McKee, who said it was important to remember the perilous journey to North America.
