A major new apprenticeship programme in Longford town has been given the go ahead this afternoon. Four state of the art new Electrical Apprenticeship workshops will be constructed at the Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board campus on the Battery Road in Longford Town. The facility has expanded into the former Connolly Barracks in recent years with the new development set to see the former barracks gym and ration store turned into the workshops and a new canteen.
Works are due to commence next week, with hopes the new facilities could be open by Christmas. The new apprenticeship programe should see up to 60 students graduate each year once up and running and was formally approved by SOLAS this afternoon.
