A decline in vocations to the priesthood was addressed by the New Archbishop of Tuam at his installation on Sunday.
Cavan Native Francis Duffy says while some parishes find themselves sharing one priest, appreciation for the clergy is higher than ever.
He says changes are necessary to facilitate new developments in the church but will depend on the role that parishioners will play.
The former Bishop of Ardagh/Clonmacnoise paid tribute to his predecessor Dr Michael Neary who was in the role for 27 years.
During his homily at Tuam Cathedral Archbishop Duffy said he is willing to listen and learn and believes there is evidence of current robust safeguarding practices in the archdiocese.
