Additional bus services for the Shannonside region will come into effect from this weekend.
The government has today confirmed that 72 towns and villages will get new or enhanced bus services including connections between Longford, Athlone and Cavan.
From 23 October, the Route 190 Athlone to Drogheda service will see every second service on the existing Route 190 service being extended via Mullingar to Athlone, to provide a two-hourly service between Athlone and Drogheda,
The Route 466 Athlone-Longford-Cavan service will also see a substantial increase on this corridor. and it will provide peak time services in both directions i.e. towards Cavan, Longford or Athlone which does not currently exist.
It's expected that multiple off-peak and evening services which do not currently exist for passengers will also be put in place.
The updated timetables are now available on the Bus Eireann website
Junior Transport Minister, Hildegarde Naughten says the changes result from the public asking for improved services:
"This is part of research that was done by the NTA asking people where are the gaps in the services, and this is part of the reason we're making this announcement today"
