A Leitrim TD is calling on the government to establish a 'safeguarding authority', to ensure people in vulnerable settings are kept safe.
Reports today suggest that there has been a significant lag in the health officials reporting serious incidents to the health watchdog Hiqa in facilities in Community Helathcare Organisation one, which covers Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan.
It's understood the health inspectorate questioned the HSE's ability to manage services for people with disabilities , two months after the Brandon report.
Concerns were raised after Hiqa was not notified about alleged incidents involving child pornography on multiple occasions and only received the latest notification three months after the HSE was legally required to do so.
Leitrim TD Martin Kenny believes a major review of service sin the north-west may be required.
