Newly proposed bylaws governing Ireland's Waterways will ensure complete access to Ireland's entire boating network.
That's the argument of Waterways Ireland as the body appeared at a Oireathas Committee meeting today to discuss potential new controversial bylaws.
The new measures include a €200 annual registration fee, which the organisation states will bring uniformity to their navigation's and allow boaters access to the full network of services and facilities nationwide.
A number of local stakeholders and County Councillors have criticised the new laws, claiming they will negatively affect the local boating industry.
Following consultation, Waterways Ireland removed a number of bylaw proposals highlighted by members of the public, who were not happy with their contents.
According to Waterways Ireland, the existing permit of €127 that was set in 1988, would now equate to €288.
In a statement to Shannonside FM News, the organisation say the new €200 permit will allow boaters unimpeded access to Ireland's natural and man made water ways.
