Alzheimers and dementia patients across Roscommon are being encouraged to attend a new day centre in the county.
The facility which was opened in December in Castlerea provides therapeutic stimulation activities and care to people three days per week.
The centre operated by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland currently has nine clients but due to increased capacity, it will now cater for 24 clients.
Michelle Shiel, Nurse Manager says the demand is there for a service with over 1,100 people living with dementia in Roscommon.
''It's a two fold service really, for our clients we have social interaction, cognitive stimulation, participation in activities. It also benefits the family carer, it gives them time to re-charge the battery, do some shopping or banking, so it helps out the family. ''
