The newly elected Chair of the Granard Municipal District in Longford says he wants to see local areas in the north of the county get help to develop their tourism potential.
Fine Gael's Garry Murtagh was elected to the position at the annual general meeting of the local authority this week with Independent Turlough McGovern taking the vice-chair position.
Councillor Murtagh who was first elected to the council in last year's local elections says he would never have expected to become involved in local politics so quickly.
He says that having found himself in the position of Chair of the local area though, he is going to try to make sure that everywhere in the district gets help to develop their facilities…..
