The Chairman of the Boyle Town Team says today's official opening of a new regeneration project marks a new chapter for the town.
A €3.4 million refurbishment of the old Royal Hotel in the centre of the town was opened today by Minister Heather Humphreys.
The building was purchased in 2017 by Roscommon County Council after it had lain vacant for many years and there appeared to be no commercial interest in developing it.
With Roscommon council sourcing funding the space has now been developed as a public exhibition area and enterprise hub.
There's also outdoor space linked to the Boyle River which flows beside the building.
Ciaran Sheerin who works for the town largest employer, as well as being the Chairperson of Boyle Town Team says the building's redevelopment means a lot in both economic and civic terms.
'It's always difficult when there's an area of dereliction, and especially if you drive through the centre of a town and one of your primary buildings, synonymous with Boyle , is in a state of dereliction.
So today is a very proud day for us here, and I think I speak for a lot of my colleagues in the Town Team and in industry locally as well, to say that this is a big boost for the town.
We can see this as turning a corner, in combination with a lot of the other Public Realm works, that are either going to begin , or are ongoing, and not to mention our new library as well that will be adjacent to the back of the "Royal" building.'
