A new CT scanner has been approved and ordered for Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
The Hospital is currently renting a temporary scanner during the wait for the replacement, with a new development planned to house the vital diagnostic equipment.
Following an update given to a meeting of the Western Regional Heath Forum, it was confirmed the scanner will be placed in the undercroft or storage room of the Theatre building.
A design team is currently working on the project with the hospital now waiting on a work schedule and timeframe for its completion.
The issue was raised at yesterday's meeting by local councillor Evelyn Francis Parsons.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Dr. Parsons says it is positive news for the hospital and she's now waiting for a date for it to be installed.
