Over €6 million euro is to be spent on a new outpatients department at Mullingar hospital.
The new department has been approved for inclusion in the 2021 Capital Programme following an application developed by the hospital to address their specific needs.
It's understood that space presently used for the outpatients centre can be developed for use in the future as part of the Emergency Department, and respiratory assessment unit.
Longford/Westmeath Minister of State Robert Troy says €4.75 has been allocated in this year's budget and the remainder will come as the building is developed.
He says he's hopeful that work can start on the new department later this year and that it can be ready for use in early 2022…
