A south Roscommon councillor hopes the new economic strategy for Athlone will deliver more employment opportunities in the town.
The plan which is a joint collaboration between Roscommon and Westmeath councils hopes attract high quality talent, investors, businesses and tourists to the town.
John Naughten says growth of the TUS midlands in recent years can been seen in the town while it is also a great location as a multinational base for IDA backed firms.
Speaking to Shannonside FM following the launch Councillor Naughten noted the emphasis in the plan on job creation in both the short and long term.
Hopefully we'll see huge potential in jobs linking in with the University and the development of clusters be it in life sciences, pharmaceuticals or in investment in IT.
I think Athlone's location gives it huge opportunities going forward.
