A local hospital that serves the Shannonside region has opened a new surgical facility.
Charter Medical Private Hospital, formerly known as St Francis' Hospital in Mullingar, formally opened the expansion of the endoscopy suite on Wednesday.
The new suite features two endoscopy theatres, a minor operations procedure room, and a ten bed recovery bay.
This, according to the hospital, will provide capacity to facilitate 7,500 procedures annually.
The service supports provision for private patients and National Treatment Purchase Fund activity from a number of public hospital sites to reduce the waiting lists.
Welcoming the opening of the suite, local councillor Hazel Smyth said that the facility will allow for more care options for those based in the midlands.
