A new equine rehabilitation centre at Castlerea Prison in Roscommon will help abused and rescued horses recover.
The new stable unit at the Roscommon prison is part of a programme teaching inmates specialist skills in the care of horses.
The course, supported by the Irish horse racing industry has sourced a number of animals from the Irish Horse Welfare trust.
The horses will be used as part of the training programme before being rotated out to new homes or other rescues.
