Motorists driving through the town of Ballymahon may have noticed a new resident recently on the banks of the River Inny.
A steel sculpture of a fisherman has been unveiled at the river beside the bridge over the Inny in recent days.
The sculpture came about after conversations between local councillor Pat O' Toole and members of the Traders Group and Tidy Towns.
Funding was allocated to the project from the Municipal District allocation for Ballymahon, and local artist Liam Kavanagh was commissioned to design the piece.
Councillor Pat O' Toole says the sculpture is a nod to the popularity of the river as a fishing place over the years…
"If it doesn't bring the fishermen back, there'll certainly be a curiosity factor going forward. As you know we have people from all over the island of Ireland on a Monday and Friday in particular going to Center Parcs and they're stopping off for a bite to eat or whatever. So, I'm sure there'll be wondering what this fisherman is doing there on the Inny. It'll bring the curiosity factor to the fore anyway"!
