It's understood that a new Garda Superintendent has been appointed to cover all of County Longford.
Jim Delaney retired as Longford Garda Superintendent earlier this month after over five years in the role, and it was hoped that a quick replacement could be found to fill the vacant position for the district that covers the town and its surroundings.
Shannonside Northern Sound now understands that Seamus Boyle, who is the Superintendent in charge of the Granard Garda District since March 2019, is to take up the vacant role in Longford as well as continuing to manage the north Longford District.
It's understood that his appointment to the role has been approved by the Policing Authority in recent days and will be officially confirmed next week.
