A new invasive species of mussel has been discovered on Lough Ree in recent days.
It's understood the discovery was made by scientists from a Dublin university who were carrying out a study in the area.
Martin McEnroe who's been an angling and waterways representative for the past four decades says this latest discovery could lead to far more serious problems than with the other invasive mussels and clams discovered over recent years.
He says the new species is apparently far more aggressive that the others and it could lead to blocked pipes and other issues when water is being taken out to serve local communities.
