Irish Rail says regular train users should double check their departure times after a new timetable began today which includes changes in Athlone. It's added services to the Galway-Dublin Heuston line with later times, to add "flexibility" with all new services stopping at Athlone. Up to five additional weekday services on the route come into effect this week including an early 5.45am service leaving Dublin.
As part of the new timetable there is also an additional late service leaving both Heuston and Galway at 8.30 and 8.50 respectively. Irish Rail, spokesperson Barry Kenny, says its better to have a quick look on the website than arrive late:
