Leitrim County Council have launched a new 'Leitrim Alerts' messaging service.
It delivers a range of alerts from the local authority, An Garda Siochána, Met Éireann, Uisce Éireann, and community group notices from across the county.
Subscribers will be required to enter their mobile phone number, email address and enter a password of their choosing.
Subscribers can download the dedicated from the www.leitrimalerts.ie website or through the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store by searching for and installing 'Leitrim Alerts'.
Kieran Brett from Leitrim County Council is encouraging people to use the service.
''You register with the app. You get Garda crime prevention alerts, they'll get extreme weather alerts, notices from Irish water now called Uisce Eireann - of water supply issues in their area. It also has a function where t the administrator of a community group, can send messages such as fundraising events in their local area to just their members. It will also have Council messages such as planning notices and road closures.''
