It's hoped additional funding being provided for local laneways and roads in County Leitrim will finally allow its LIS list to be cleared.
Earlier this year Councillors were told that no new areas could be added to the Local Improvement Scheme waiting list until all areas had works completed.
The government has today confirmed that an extra seven hundred thousand euro is being provided for roads in Leitrim, as well as 114,000 each in Longford and Roscommon
Today's announcement means that for the first time ever, over one million euro is being made available for the LIS scheme in Leitrim.
Councillor Enda McGloin is hopeful that all remaining areas will now get a chance to have their roads and laneways improved :
It's down to about 38 at this stage and Leitrim County Council have a lot of their public road works programme at this stage so this money will allow them to concentrate on a lot of the LIS schemes at the back end of this year and I would be very confident that that list of 38 will evaporate with this extra funding allowing Leitrim County Council to re-open their list.
