New local senators make opening speeches in the Seanad

Fine Gael's Gareth Scahill and Paraic Brady spoke on the opening day of the new Seanad yesterday.

An emotional tribute was paid to Roscommon councillor Anthony Waldron on the opening day of the new Seanad yesterday. The 64-year-old was found dead at his home in Ballintubber last Sunday morning.

His remains will repose at the Old School House in Ballintubber today between 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock, ahead of his funeral in the village tomorrow. Fine Gael senator Gareth Scahill, from Castlerea, spoke about his death in his first Seanad contribution:

In his first contribution, Fine Gael's Paraic Brady, from Longford, said agriculture would be his priority as a senator:
