People with suspected broken bones or minor injuries will be able to avail of a new Minor Injuries Unit in Mullingar from today on.
The new unit is located on the campus of the Charter Private Medical Centre at Ballinderry.
The fee for attending without a referral or medical card will be €75 euro, €25 euro less that the fee charged if they present at the Emergency Department at the regional hospital in the town.
People who are deemed to have minor injuries will be redirected from the ED at Mullingar hospital over to the new unit from today.
It's hoped the new development will help reduce overcrowding at the emergency department in the regional hospital.
The Minor Injury Unit will also provide full imaging and x-ray facilities in order for patients to be fully diagnosed and treated onsite.
