A state of the art MRI scanner planned for Mullingar Regional Hospital will be a draw for skilled workers once operational.
That's according to a former Consultant Radiologist at the Midland's Hospital who says that the high tech diagnostic equipment will help in the face of a sector-wide talent shortage.
Almost one million euro was donated locally across Longford and Westmeath during the last decade for the scanner, with a shortfall of €250,000 now required to be bridged before it can become fully operational next year.
The vital medical equipment will be located at the former ambulance base at the midland's hospital, which has been demolished to make way for the purpose-built structure.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound today, Dr Hugh Logan, former head of the Radiology Department at Mullingar Hospital says the scanner will be a huge benefit to patients in the region.
