Following last week's AGM, the three Municipal Districts in Co. Longford are set to meet this week for the first time since the Local election. One of the items on the agenda will be to appoint a new Cathaoirleach for the next year. Fine Gael's Garry Murtagh is set to become the new Cathaoirleach in the Granard Municipal District. Murtagh topped the poll in the LEA earlier this month with 1,450 first preference votes.
In the Longford Municipal District, long standing Fianna Fáil Cllr Seamus Butler is set to become Cathaoirleach. He was elected following the first count alongside Fine Gael's Gerry Hagan and Peggy Nolan and fellow Fianna Fáil Cllr Martin Monaghan. Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil's Pat O'Toole is set to be elected as the new Cathaoirleach in the Ballymahon LEA. He was re-elected alongside fellow Fianna Fáil Cllr Mick Cahill, Fine Gael's Paul Ross and Independent Cllr Mark Casey.
