A new national human rights organisation was launched in Longford yesterday.
The Irish branch of the Kashmir Peace Forum International will work towards highlighting the human rights abuses being inflicted on the natives of the Kashmir and Jammu territory between India and Pakistan.
Amesty international reports that locals in the region face suppression of freedoms, attacks, rape and forced disappearances.
The Launch of KPFI was addressed by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Ireland, Mrs Aisha Farooqui.
Kashmiri national Parvez Butt is one of the people behind the initiative and hopes the organisation can bring international attention on the issue.
