The first ever park run in Leitrim is taking place this morning in Ballinamore.
A meeting was held in the town in recent weeks to gauge interest in the event and there was strong demand for the scheme.
Park runs happen across the country in several towns and villages on Saturday mornings, beginning a half past nine.
This morning's event in Ballinamore is taking place on the newly opened greenway.
Deirdre Parnell says the park run doesn't have to be competitive and people are encouraged to walk the route if they choose.
She says there's a huge social aspect to the Saturday mornings…
" The big part of it, it involves the whole local community, its a community led event it depends on volunteers and you do not have to run - you can just come to help out and be apart of the gang. At the end we go for a coffee and it could be a five min chat or if we go to Lough Key it could be a hour or two."
