A trial pedestrian path on Rooskey Bridge crossing the Shannon has been branded as a disaster waiting to happen. The historic bridge has had no designated area for pedestrians to cross, leading to ongoing safety concerns. A two week trial began this week testing out a one way system using traffic lights, with a metre and a half of the bridge given over to a pedestrian walkway.
Leitrim Councillors have previously supported the provision of a cantilever footbridge along the outside of the original, similar to that seen in Carrick on Shannon. The trial will finish on the 6th of October, with the information and traffic figures collected examined by the NTA.
