The newly elected Cathaoirleach of Roscommon council isn't ruling out a possible General Election bid.
Fianna Fail's John Keogh was elected to the position at yesterday's Annual General Meeting for the first time since he joined the council in 2009.
He was asked on the Let's Talk show this afternoon if he'd consider running for Fianna Fail in the next general election.
Councillor Keogh says a lot would depend on whether the party might want to run two candidates in the next election, and on what changes might be made to the constituency by the Electoral Commission which is currently studying the issue.
The public representative says it's a natural ambition of anyone who enters political life to reach as high as possible, but he isn't ruling anything in or out so far.
"I think to be fair to anyone that puts their name forward for election in political life, their aspiration is to achieve the highest possible office they can achieve and that would be no different for me. Whether I will contest a general election remains to be seen. We'll have to just see how things progress, whether there's a desire to run 2 candidates or 1 candidate. That will be determined when we have the boundary review commission report. I'm not ruling anything in or out at this moment in time".
