All quad bikes users must wear helmets and undergo safety training from today. The new regulation is one of the first of its kind in Europe. There's been an increased use of quad bikes on farms, and the Heath and Safety Authority is encouraging farmers to think about their health and wellbeing.
There were 191 fatalities on farms over the past decade, and over half of these involved farm machinery and quad bikes. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Roscommon farmer Giles Auchmuty believes anything that improves Health and Safety on farms should be welcomed:
