Roscommon County Council's Roads Department has confirmed that new safety improvements are now in place at a local primary school. Staff at Carrick National School, located on the outskirts of Ballinlough, launched a campaign last year which called for enhanced safety measures along the N60. The campaign was supported by parents and locals who were concerned about the speed limit around the school zone, which was 100km/hr.
A new speed limit of 60km/hr has been put in place, and anti-skid surfacing has also been installed. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Anthony Waldron said that this will not only ensure the safety of pupils, but all those who visit the area:
