A new 'zero tolerance strategy' to tackle domestic, sexual and gender based violence goes before cabinet today.
There's a 363 million euro budget set for the plans expected to be published later by the Justice Minister Helen McEntee.
The policy will include a doubling of the maximum sentence for assault causing harm from 5 to 10 years.

While it's proposed the number of places in women's refuges across the the country would be doubled from 141 to 280.
