The opening of the newly revamped National Famine Museum in Strokestown in recent months presents a great opportunity for development in the town itself.
That's according to the Chairman of Strokestown Town Team Shane Lynskey.
The new museum was developed by the Irish Heritage Trust, in partnership with Failte Ireland and is viewed as a 'best-in-class' visitor experience for the region.
It's expected to attract 115,000 visitors annually and generate an additional €25 million for the local economy in the next ten years.
Shane Lynskey says the attraction presents a real challenge for the town to make the most of the opportunity.
