Plans for a major refurbishment project at a well known Longford Secondary School are to move to the next step, according to the Minister of Education.
In a statement yesterday, Education Minister Norma Foley announced that St. Mel's College will see plans for significant work on the historic main building of the school proceed to design phase.
The project would see the construction of 2 Special Needs Classes, 2 General Classrooms, A Home Economics room, A Multi-media/computer room, Science Lab, Music room and a Design/Communications Graphic room.
The historic listed building dates back over 155 years and was the original building when the college was founded in 1865.
Principal of the College, Declan Rowely, says the new infrastructure will help the college expand its offerings to students.
