The government has confirmed that no Commission of Investigation will be established to investigate the circumstances of the death of a Roscommon priest 35 years ago.
The family of Fr Niall Molloy had called for the special enquiry, which could compel people to give evidence, in order to find out the exact circumstances of his death in Clara, County Offaly, in 1986
Local Sinn Fein TDs Claire Kerrane and Martin Kenny raised the matter in the Dail this week, where they urged the government to allow the family get some closure on the mysterious death at Coursey House.
A Review of the Report of the Serious Crime Review Team into Fr Molloy's death by barrister Dominic McGinn in 2014 concluded that despite many failings in the case, it did not merit being the subject of a Commission of Investigation.
Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality James Browne claimed that establishing any sort of new inquiry into the Castlecoote priest's death would be "inappropriate"
Fr Molloy's nephew, Bill Maher, says the response is a big letdown to his family, in their long campaign for justice.
