No plans for additional ambulance crews in west Roscommon

The HSE operate what they call a dynamic service, whereby if the local crew is on a call, then a crew from a different station will attend.

The HSE has no current plans to add additional ambulance crews to their Loughglynn Ambulance base despite calls from a local representative. Roscommon Councillor Gareth Scahill made the call at a recent meeting of the Western Regional Health Forum, arguing that services on site are under extreme pressure. The HSE operate what they call a dynamic service, whereby if the local crew is on a call, then a crew from a different station will attend. Currently the Loughglynn Ambulance base has just one day crew and one night crew on duty seven days a week.

The HSE claim that an average of 16 emergency calls are activated daily in Roscommon over a 24 hour period, and that at this time, no additional crews are being sought for Loughglynn. Councillor Scahill believes the makeup of local communities justifies the further resourcing locally:
