Nominations will close tonight ahead of a selection convention to fill the late John Naughten's vacant seat on Roscommon County Council. The late councillor from Drum, who was re-elected to the Athlone Local Electoral Area last June, passed away in October of last year. Fine Gael will host the convention in the Athlone Springs Hotel on the evening of February 20th. So far, two candidates, Ger Grehan and Valerie Duffy, have put their names forward to be selected ahead of the 9 o'clock deadline. Ger Grehan is from Taughmaconnell and ran unsuccessfully in the 2019 local elections. He says he has the experience to be a strong voice for the south Roscommon area:
