A popular North Roscommon tourist attraction will celebrate its 20th anniversary this weekend.
The Arigna Mining Experience opened in April 2003 following the closure of the mines and local power station in 1990.
Over 450,000 people have visited the amenity over the last two decades and manager Valerie Stenson hopes the centre will continue to grow and expand in the coming years.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Valerie says they hope a new discovery park can be opened early next year.
'We are also in the process this year of developing an outdoor discovery park onsite here in Argina beside the museum and it will be on the theme of mining. We will have a new viewing platform. We will have a sensory garden and a biodiversity trail so that is coming on stream towards the end of this year early next year so it will add to the appeal and offer the visitors more facilities on site as well.'
