Irish Rail is being called on to find additional resources so Longford local train station can remain fully open to the public this month.
Due to a shortage of staff, Irish Rail has confirmed that there will be no access to the train station building in Longford, including the ticket machines or toilets several days in November.
The transport company says they are managing and covering as much as possible, and once the issue is resolved, opening hours will be unchanged.
The first closure took place last Friday, with a further closure on the 8th, and 12th of this month as well as an expected closure from Monday November 15th until Friday the 19th of this month.
Longford Councillor Peggy Nolan says it's totally unfair to commuters not to have access to the stations
"You can’t lock up a service where people can be in and out of the wind and rain.
There is no way this is acceptable. This is going to leave vulnerable people more vulnerable and vulnerable to the elements.
It's not acceptable."
