A number of motorists were caught speeding locally during yesterday's national slow down day.
The day of action was organised by Gardaí to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding and to increase compliance with posted speed limits. One driver was recorded travelling at 83kph in a 60kph zone on the N4 at Drishoge, Carrick on Shannon. Elsewhere, another driver was detected driving at 93kph in a 80kph zone on the R327 near Cloonfad. While in Westmeath, a motorist was caught travelling at 130kph in a posted 100kph limit on the N4 at The Downs. One of the highest breaches detected was 119kph in an 80kph zone near Lucan in Co.Dublin.
