A number of local artisan food companies have been praised at a prestigious national award.
The Great Taste awards is one of the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation schemes, judged by a panel of industry experts.
Local Athlone company, Oliver Carty & Family, was recognised for the high standard of its products with a three-star rating, the highest in the awards' categories, and was one of just 17 in the country to receive the same accolade.
Roscommon-based company Waldron Meats achieved an "outstanding" two-star rating for its meat products, while Longford's Lough Ree Distillery received the "simply delicious" one-star award.
Meanwhile in Cavan, Lakeland Dairies was also awarded two-stars for its dairy products, and Monaghan's Silver Hill Duck products received the prestigious three stars.
