The number of flu patients admitted to local hospitals is on the rise. It comes as the number of people hospitalised with the flu almost doubled in the last week. Data released by the HSE has revealed a significant increase of flu patients across the region. Sligo University Hospital is treating 32 cases as of yesterday. Meanwhile, 17 flu patients were admitted to Portiuncula University Hospital.
The highest figure of flu cases in the West and North West is in Galway University Hospital, at a total of 56 patients being treated. Overall, 166 flu patients have been admitted to hospitals in the region. The HSE is urging every eligible person to get vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 as soon as possible in order to prevent the further transmission of the illness.
