A number of people in the Shannonside region have appeared in the tax defaulters list for the third quarter of this year. The list published by Revenue contains a list of those who failed to declare income tax returns, were involved in the smuggling and illegal sale of tobacco, and the misuse of marked mineral oil. €25,500 worth of fines were issued to 11 individuals in Roscommon, Westmeath and Leitrim for a number of issues. Six individuals in Roscommon and Athlone were penalised for failure to lodge income tax returns, to a total of over €6,000 in fines.
Three Roscommon residents and one Leitrim man were fined for the misuse of marked mineral oil or Green Diesel over the three months. They received combined fines worth €10,000. Two Roscommon men were also found guilty of tobacco smuggling in quarter 3 of this year with one of those also fined for the illegal sale of tobacco products. Overall, Revenue handed out over 112 million euro worth of fines in 13,600 compliance incidents.
