The Department of Integration has confirmed it rejected an offer of modular housing at existing refugee accommodation in Westmeath.
Up to 18 modular homes were delivered to Coole Village on Friday morning, with HGVs blocking a local road in the area for several hours.
The site is already home to 98 international protection beds under a two year contract.
Locals barricaded the site on Friday and refused access to the vehicles, which left the scene after a number of hours.
An offer for additional capacity was received by the Department through the tender process but was rejected.
In a statement to Shannonside FM News, The Department say they have no plans for the construction of modular housing or an extension on site as it would not comply would planning regulations.
Minister for Trade and Enterprise and Local TD Peter Burke says the Government and local authority keep lines of communication open with the community.
