The official opening of a secondary school in south Roscommon takes place later today.
Colaiste Chiarain in Summerhill began operating in 2020 and currently caters for 770 students from Athlone and surrounding areas.
It was established in 2017 as an amalgamation of the former St Aloysius boy's school and St Joseph's girl's school in Summerhill.The three story school was built for a capacity of 1,000 students and includes 37 general classrooms as well as a number of specialist rooms for technical and other subjects.
The Bishop of Elphin Kevin Doran, who is also the school's patron, will perform the official opening at lunchtime today.Longford Westmeath TD and Minister of State Peter Burke will also attend.
