One million euro is being invested in the development of six new social houses in Elphin.
Roscommon County Council made the application and is being approved for four, 2-bedroom and two 3-bedroom homes in the town.
Senator Eugene Murphy who has been informed of the development by Housing Minister Darragh O Brien says it’s a significant development in getting back to local authorities building houses in rural areas.
He says it will greatly address a shortage of homes for people on the housing list in north Roscommon.
